SR&ED Program Criteria

The program criteria at a glance:

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT

  • The work must achieve an advancement in the general understanding (of the field of science).
  • Information on how to achieve it is not available in the public domain.
  • Success or failure is not a consideration.

TECHNOLOGICAL UNCERTAINTY

  • Includes only uncertainties related to technological considerations, not economic or viability uncertainty.
  • Uncertainty as to whether or not technological objective will be achieved, a solution found, or advancement made.
  • How to achieve the advancement or the path to take is not known, based on existing knowledge and experience.

What is SR&ED?
CONTENT
  • The testing of hypotheses is specifically aimed at removing or eliminating a technological uncertainty.
  • The work must involve a systematic investigation, performed by qualified personnel.
  • Documentation is increasingly important, as evidenced by CRA's latest changes made to the T661 form May 3, 2011, where there is increased emphasis on Documentary Evidence. Taxpayers can now expect CRA to deny claims in whole or in part due to the lack of evidence. Waiting until the end of the fiscal year is too late since the documentary evidence must be contemporaneous, meaning prepared as the work is done. It is therefore more important than ever that companies have a system, process or methodology to maintain appropriate records and ensure compliance.
This is how we can help!
  • Assessing your current system;
  • Providing a hard copy methodology and binder; or
  • Using our proprietary ONE TrackTM documentation program.
R&D ONE provides free initial assessments of eligibility and only gets paid if you receive your tax incentive.

It is risk free! Contact us directly, either by phone 1.877.266.0005 or email principals@ideaciaone.ca to discuss how R&D ONE might be able to help your business recover money from your R&D and innovation initiative.
